Vantage gives administrators the ability to allow remote access to the consoles of Vantage-managed resources. Unique user logins can be created which will allow access to specific resources, enabling administrators to control remote access.
The Vantage workstation can be equipped with a modem or connected to a network. Persons requiring remote Vantage access can be connected to a shared copy of a managed resource's console character stream to allow access to console activities and functions from remote locations.
Anyone granted remote access is put into a restricted shell at login and is prompted for a choice of the resource to which they want to be connected. The name of the resource chosen is checked against a file to verify that the login has been granted access to the resource.
Once access is verified the login is connected to the console character stream of the requested resource. This creates a fully functional copy of the resource's original console. Any keystrokes entered at the remote terminal will be displayed at the resource's console window on the Vantage workstation, at the original hardwire console as well as at the remote terminal. Any commands that can be executed from the original console can also be executed from the remote login. All remote connection activities are logged to a file on the Vantage workstation.
