Assigning Passwords to Vantage Dialogs

Setting passwords can restrict the use of Vantage dialogs. When the dialog starts the password must be supplied to use the dialogs. A program is provided that enables administrators to assign or change passwords.
Default passwords, if requested, are assigned during the installation or update process. The default password for the Resource, Group and Event dialogs is vanadmin. The default password for the Launch/Status Manager dialog is vanoper. It is strongly recommended that these passwords be changed immediately after installing Vantage. The program vpasswd is provided to accomplish this task.
The vpasswd program is run from a terminal window on the Vantage workstation by typing vpasswd in the window. Passwords are limited to 8 alpha/numeric characters and must begin with an alpha character. The program's prompts are explained in the following text.
Enter Dialog Name: Enter the name of the dialog whose password is being changed--xsystems for the Resource dialog (csystems for the character based version), xaliass for the Group dialog, xevents for the Event dialog and xlaunch for the Launch/Status Manager dialog.
Enter Old Passwd: Enter the old password. If the choice was made to assign a password to the dialogs and the passwords are being changed for the first time enter vanadmin for the Resource, Group and Event dialogs and vanoper for the Launch/Status Manager dialog. If the choice was made to not assign a password to the dialogs, just press Return.
Enter New Passwd: Enter the new password or press Return to remove the password. (Maximum of 8 alpha/numeric characters)
Verify Passwd: Enter the new password again as verification or press Return to remove the password. (Maximum of 8 alpha/numeric characters)
The new password has now been set. Repeat the process for each dialog. Call Vantage Technical Support for help on setting default passwords.
