Using Vantage Dialogs

The Vantage interface is constructed from OSF/Motif widgets and gadgets to provide a highly intuitive and easy to use interface. The text below explains the Vantage dialogs.

Vantage configuration and operation is accomplished by using four programs or dialogs: The Launch/Status Manager and the Resource, Group and Event Definition dialogs.
Starting Dialogs

The Launch-Status Manager is started by positioning the pointer on the Launcher icon and clicking the left mouse button. To start the Vantage on-line documentation click the Help icon. The Resource, Group and Event Definition dialogs can be started from the Vantage Admin sub-panel. To display the sub-panel click the up arrow above the Vantage Admin icon.
On Linux look for a shortcut on the desktop with the space-shuttle icon.

To start the Resource, Group or Event Definition dialogs position the pointer on the desired icon on the Vantage Admin sub-panel and click the left mouse button. The dialogs can also be started from the Launch/Status Manager dialog. The Audio Editor and Volume Control programs can be started from the Admin sub-panel by clicking their respective icons.
On Linux start the major dialogs from the buttons along the bottom of the Launch dialog.
Dialog Controls
The controls on Vantage dialogs are "point-and-click". To select a control move the pointer to the control and click the left mouse button. Some controls require that you type your own text, some enable you to select defined text values and others allow you to click a button to choose a value.
This type of control enables you to click a button to select a value. To select a value position the pointer over either the button or the word that corresponds with the button and click the left mouse button. When clicked, the button will appear to have been depressed.
This type of control lets you scroll through text to select a value. To display the available values click the up or down arrow on the right side of the control. When the value you want appears in the window click the word or phrase to choose the value. Your choice will be highlighted when selected.

The control at left requires that you enter your own text. To type into this control position the pointer in the control, click the left mouse button and type your text.
This control requires that you click a button before you're allowed to enter text into the field. Click the button on the dialog then position the pointer in the control, click the left mouse button and type your text.
Dialog Buttons
Vantage dialogs have buttons that perform specific functions.

The Add button adds a new record.
The Cancel button cancels the current operation.
The Delete button deletes an existing record after a Find operation. A dialog will be displayed asking you to confirm your intention to delete the record.
The Find button is used to find an existing record.
The Modify button is used to modify an existing record after a Find operation.
The OK button indicates that all selections have been made and it is OK to continue.
The Results button displays the results of a Search By function.
The Search By button enables the selection of search criteria.
Dialog Menus
The Vantage File Menus allow the execution of various functions. To display the menu position the pointer on the word File in the upper left corner of the dialog, click and hold the left button on the mouse, drag the pointer to the desired item and release the mouse button to choose the item.
This is the Event Definition File Menu. Drag the pointer to the word Quit to exit the dialog. Choose Distribute Events to distribute new or modified event definitions to all defined resources. Events will not be detected until distributed. The Bin to CSV and CSV to Bin are not currently enabled. Choose Print Events to create a printed copy of all defined events.
This is the Group Definition File Menu. Drag the pointer to the word Quit to exit the dialog. Choose Print Groups to create a printed copy of all defined groups.
This is the Resource Definition File Menu. Drag the pointer to the word Quit to exit the dialog. Choose Print Resources to create a printed copy of all defined resources.
This is the NED File Menu. To print a selection from the NED window first highlight the selection by positioning the pointer at the beginning of the text to be printed. Click and drag the pointer over the desired text, click the File menu and click Print NED Selection. To print all NED memory click the file menu and choose Print All NED.
