Emulex Definition Dialog Controls

The Emulex model P25xx TCP/IP terminal servers are shipped with a default IP address which must be changed for the servers to work on your network.
The following steps must be performed before attempting to define resources that will be connected to Emulex terminal servers. Choose Emulex to skip the network setup and go directly to the dialog example.
Emulex Network Setup Instructions
1. Connect a terminal to the DB25 male connection labeled Port 1 on the rear of the server. To establish this connection, connect a Vantage Terminal Server connector to the Emulex port, connect a Vantage Console hood to the terminal and connect the two with an appropriate length of Vantage cable. The terminal should be set to 9600 baud and parity set to none, 8, and 1.
2. Apply power to the terminal.
3. Connect the terminal server to the network.
4. Press and hold the DEFAULT button on the front panel of the server and apply power to the server by connecting the power cord to the rear of the server. Continue holding the DEFAULT button for approximately three seconds during which time you should see the red light on the front panel blink. This process downloads default configuration values to the server.
5. In approximately three minutes self-load information will be displayed on the terminal. When the self-load is complete and you see the words "Server ready for logins". Press Return on the terminal.
6. At the "Enter username or Help" prompt type Vantage and press Return.
7. Type "su" and press Return to enter privileged mode. At the "password" prompt type "system" and press Return again. You should now see the "Server" prompt.
8. To assign the server's IP address type "change server ip nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn" where nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn is the permanent IP address being assigned to the server.
9. Type "lo" (el oh) to log off Port 1. Now disconnect the terminal from the server.
10. Cycle power on the server by disconnecting and re-connecting the power cord. Do not hold the DEFAULT button this time, as this would overwrite the new IP address.
11. Allow about 3 minutes for the server to reboot.
12. If you've not already done so, place the server in the its permanent location. Re-connect it to the network and apply power.
13. Open a terminal window on the Vantage workstation, su to root and modify the /etc/hosts file to include the IP address, friendly name and any alias assigned to the Emulex server. Edit the file then exit the root login.
14. Attempt to ping the server from the Vantage workstation before continuing. To ping the device open a terminal window on the Vantage workstation and type /etc/ping nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn where nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn is the IP address assigned in step 8 above. To stop the ping program type CTRL C.
15. If you were able to successfully ping the server, open a terminal window on the Vantage workstation and type the following: emuload [nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn] [Pnnnn] where nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn is the IP address assigned in step 8 above and Pnnnn is the model number of the Emulex server being added (i.e., P2504). The emuload program is complete when you see the words "Download to Emulex [model#] Terminal Server at [IP address] Finished".
16. Cycle power on the Emulex server to load the new configuration. Wait approximately three minutes for the load to complete and attempt to ping the server again.
If you can successfully ping the server, you are now ready to define Emulex resources using the Resource Definition dialog. If unable to ping the device, check your work then call ASP Technologies Inc., Vantage Technical Support if you are unable to resolve the problem.
The figure below is the Emulex Definition dialog.

Refer to Using Vantage Dialogs to learn about Vantage dialogs. Each control on the dialog is explained in the text that follows.
Emulex Definition Dialog Controls
Server:
Required. This control is used to configure the model of Emulex server which will connect the resource to Vantage. Click to select the model being configured if other than the default.
· P2504, 4 Port(Default)
· P2508, 8 Port
· P2516, 16 Port
Serial Port:
Required. The Serial Port control is used to configure the physical port to which the managed resource will be connected. The control will allow selection of a specific range of ports depending on which server is clicked in the Server control. Click to select the serial port to which the managed resource will be connected.
· P2504, Serial Port - 1/4
· P2508, Serial Port - 1/8
· P2516, Serial Port - 1/16
Baud Rate:
Required. Use this control to select the baud rant of the port being configured. The baud rate of the Emulex port must match the baud rate of the resource's console port. Click to select a value other than the default.
38400 19200 9600(Default) 4800 2400 1200 300
Parity/Data/Stop:
Required. This control is used to select the parity and the number of data and stop bits to be used on the serial port. The values of the Emulex port must match the values of the resource's console port. Click to select a value other than the default.
None, 8, 1(Default) Even, 7, 0 Odd, 7, 0
Server IP Address:
Required. This control is used to enter the IP address of the Emulex Terminal Server. This Ip address must be the same address assigned in the Emulex Network Setup Instruction done prior to the resource's definition. Click the control and type the IP address in the form of nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn and press Return.
Port Password:
Required. This control enables assignment of a password to the Emulex port to which this resource will connect. Anyone connecting to this port will be prompted for the password. Three unsuccessful attempts at the password will close the connection to the server. Click the control, type the password (maximum of 6 characters), and press Return.
The remaining controls, Flow Control through DTR Control, should be changed only if the resource being added specifically requires that they be changed. The default values will work for most computing and communications devices. If you know of no special requirements for the resource being configured, click OK then click Add on the Resource Definition dialog to add the resource.
If default values must be changed please consult the Emulex TCP/IP-LAT Protocol and Command Reference manual that shipped with the server. This manual contains specific information on command options and definitions.
Flow Control:
Required. This control is used to select the flow control used for this resource. Click to select a value other than the default.
XON(Default) XOFFANY CTS DSR DISABLED
Input Flow Control:
Required. This control disables or enables input flow control. Click to select a value other than the default.
Disable Enable(Default)
Output Flow Control:
Required. This control disables or enables output flow control. Click to select a value other than the default.
Disable Enable(Default)
Modem Control:
