The Message event response displays a message dialog, which identifies the resource upon which the event was detected, a date and time stamp, the event string detected, and the context in which the string was detected.
The figure below is the Message Definition dialog.
Refer to Using Vantage Dialogs to learn about Vantage dialogs. Each control on the dialog is explained in the text that follows.
Message to Host Name:
This control is used to identify the name of the host on which the Message event is to appear. The default for this control is the local Vantage host. Click the control and type the name of the host on which the message should appear (if other than Vantage). If you want the host name to be resolved at the time the event is detected based on the rules set by the transfer_control program type the words DEFAULT_HOST in the control.
On X Display:
This control configures the X display on which the Message event is to appear. The default is the local Vantage display. Click the control and type the X display (if other than Vantage). If you want the X display to be resolved at the time the event is detected based on the rules set by the transfer_control program, type the words DEFAULT_DISPLAY in the control.
Foreground/Background Color:
These controls allow selection of the colors of the Message. Click to select values other than the defaults. The color bars near the bottom of the dialog show the colors selected.
White/Black :
These controls enable selection of white or black text. Choose the color text that best suits the foreground and background colors selected.
Lines Console Output:
This control configures the number of lines of console output to be displayed in the "Context Event String Found In" control of the Message event dialog. The default (1 line) will display only the line of output that contains the detected event.
To display the line that contains the event plus the next "n" number of lines of console output (for a maximum of 100 lines) either
· click and hold the mouse button on the slide bar in the control and move the bar to the desired number of lines, or
· position the pointer in the control to the right of the slide bar click one time for each additional line desired.
Click OK when all controls are as desired. Click the Add button on the Event Definition dialog to add the event.
You must Distribute Events when finished adding or modifying an event for the new event to be detected.
