Voice Message Definition Controls

The Voice event response plays an audio message on the Vantage workstation when an event is detected. Custom messages can be recorded to personalize the installation.
The Audio server must be running to enable the audio capability of Vantage. The server does not start automatically without some modifications to the workstation's environment. Voice response is not supported on Linux on Version 4.00 of Vantage.
To set the workstation to start the audio server at boot time open a terminal window, su to root and use your favorite editor to modify the file /etc/netncsrc. Change the line START_LLBD=0 to START_LLBD=1 and reboot the workstation.
Four types of files or objects can be included in the Voice event Definition.
Vantage Audio Objects are pre-recorded objects supplied on the Vantage installation tape. Included are the spoken numbers zero through twenty and the spoken numbers thirty, forty, fifty, etc.
Custom Audio Objects are objects that are recorded by the user.
Audio Symbols are pre-recorded objects supplied on the Vantage installation tape. Included are the spoken numbers zero through nine, the letters a through z and special characters.
Audio Tokens can be specified which will be enunciated from the event context string when the event is detected.
The program xrecord is provided to record custom audio objects. To record audio, first plug a standard audio microphone with a 1/8 inch audio plug into the microphone-input jack on the workstation. Next, start the xrecord program by opening a terminal window on the Vantage workstation and typing xrecord & in the window.
The dialog contains controls much like those on a tape recording machine. To record an audio message simply click the Record button and speak into the microphone. Click Stop when finished recording. To listen to the recording click Play. The audio file can be saved by clicking the word File in the upper left corner of the dialog, selecting Save As from the menu then specifying a file name in the Specify Save File dialog. The saved file can be included in the Voice event Definition as a Custom Audio Object.
The xrecord program has its own help documentation. Click the word Help in the upper right hand corner of the dialog and select a topic from the menu to learn more about the topic.
The figure below is the Voice Definition dialog.

Refer to Using Vantage Dialogs to learn about Vantage dialogs. Each control on the dialog is explained in the text that follows.
