NED (Non-Event Display) is a window of consolidated output. Console output from all managed resources is displayed in this window.
As resources' Console and Monitor processes are started each resource connects to the NED window. Once connected, all console output that has not been defined as either an event or as a NED Filter event will be displayed in the window.
Vantage enables the filtering of console output displayed in the NED window. By selectively filtering the output you can eliminate the display of known events. You can then view the remaining output in the window to determine if displayed messages should be defined as events that require some action or defined as NED Filter Events that should not be displayed.
The output displayed in the window is interleaved. To distinguish the resources generating the messages each line of output is preceded by the name of the resource that generated that line of output. If transfer of control of the resource has been executed the output is slightly different.

The figure above shows a sample NED window. If a resource is being monitored at its local Vantage host the resource name precedes each line of output as expected. If however, a resource has been forwarded to another Vantage host the resource name is followed by an arrow (-) pointing to the Vantage host to which it has been forwarded. If a resource has been forwarded from another Vantage host the remote resource name is followed by an (@) symbol followed by the name of the Vantage host from which the resource was forwarded.

NED Window with Communication Loss
Loss of communications between Vantage hosts will be reflected in the NED window. The figure above shows that the resource mail is forwarded to arnold and, as indicated by the (><) symbol, the communications link between the hosts has gone down. Once communication is re-established the NED traffic that has been saved for the resource is forwarded immediately. Saved output is distinguished by the resource-node name, and two (:) characters.
Output displayed in the window can be printed. Refer to menu to get an explanation of printing from the NED File Menu.
