Catwalk
Console Access Technology Wired Asynchronous LinK. Proprietary connectors that allow splitting and sharing of a console data stream.
console functions
The console created by Vantage is an exact copy of the original console. Any commands that can be executed from the original console can also be executed from the Vantage console. Similarly, all output displayed on the original console will be displayed at the Vantage console window and at any remote Vantage terminal.
control
A field into which data are entered or which allows selection of a value.
escaped
A special character is "escaped" if it is preceded by a \ . The \ character will cause the special significance of a wild card character to be ignored and the character will be detected literally.
event
An event is any string of text that will be displayed on the resource console. Events are case sensitive.
event response
An event response is the action you want Vantage to take upon event detection. The response can be any of 10 currently supported event responses. See also What is Automation?
FASlink
A four-wire synchronous serial link using RS-485 that allows connections to serial devices up to 1500 feet from the Vantage workstation.
NED
Non-Event Display. A window of consolidated, interleaved output from the consoles of all managed resources.
networked resource
Networked Resource is defined as any resource that is network accessible and which observes TCP/IP protocol.
pointer
The pointer is the arrow that moves about the screen in response to movement of the mouse.
Registered Vantage Hosts
To be registered a Vantage host must be network accessible (must exist in the /etc/hosts file) and the host name must be added to a file called /opt/vantage/data/vanhosts.bin. Open a terminal window, login as root and use an editor of your choice to create or modify the file. Enter one Vantage host name per line and give the file 666 permissions. (chmod 666 vanhosts.bin) See also Vantage-to-Vantage Operation.
resource
A resource is any communications system or computing device to which Vantage is connected and for which Vantage has become the console.
SCSI
Small Computer System Interface is an American National Standard for interconnecting computers and peripheral devices.
variables
A variable is a white space separated token (text) from the line of output in which the event was detected ($1 for the first token, $2 for the second token, etc.). The delimiter between tokens can be changed from the default by placing the delimiter in parenthesis following the token number i.e., to find the token "LOGJOBJ" in the following output, the Command to Send control would contain $4( .). This will find the fourth token using the space and . as the delimiters. See example below.
6:03/#J15514/175/6:03/+ Job SYST03.LOGJOBJ has ABENDED
^---------$1-----------^-$2^--$3--^--$4---^-$5^etc.
